Sunday is a day most of us try to cease our labor and strenuous work-related activities. On this day, we lay low, because we’ve worked hard all week; we want to enjoy the day. We are looking forward to Sunday as a day of rest, worship, a day for peace. But, for some, they turn their focus and gear up for the weeks’ grind and possible pressures. The concept of Sunday is Blessing and Fruitfulness. It is not just a day; it is supposed to be a way of Life!

In Genesis 2, God speaks about how blessed and hallowed the Sabbath/ Sunday is as He connects blessings to fruitfulness and dominion. God blessed the animals and said, “Be fruitful and multiply.” He said to man, “Be fruitful and multiply and have dominion over all the earth.” That is what blessing means, to make possible both fruitfulness and dominion.

Fruitfulness is a state of being extraordinarily productive or prolific. Prolific in being creative, rich, and reproducing. When God “hallowed,” or “sanctified” the Sabbath, he assigned it a specific function to perform.

The Lord Jesus declared, “the Sabbath was made for man; not man for the Sabbath, Mark 2:27. Was not the Sabbath was made for the benefit of man? To rest and to worship God. Jesus said He is Lord over the Sabbath. So our proper sabbath rest is to rest in Another; by this, His divine provision is to produce fruitfulness and abundance of victory in a Christian’s life.

Let’s pause here and examine what Jesus tells us in Mark 2:27 the Sabbath is made for man, not man for the Sabbath. The Son of Man is Lord over the Sabbath.

Looking at that a little closer, we see God’s provision for our daily living is adequate each today in Him. We ask ourselves these questions; Are we okay? Do I find myself able to cope with the burden of today? Am I confident during a time of crisis and chaos in a Pandemic? Where do I find my solace? My peace, my joy?

The implication here is that we cease from our efforts and depend on the work of Another. Hebrews 4:9 There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God. It’s why Paul cries, “Not I, but Christ. I no longer live, but Christ lives in me,” Galatians 2:20.

Jesus said, “It is the Father who dwells in me who does the work,” John 14:10. “The Son can do nothing by himself,” John 5:19.

Christian who learns “it is God who works in you both to will and to act according to his good pleasure,” Phil 2:13. So the true Christian Life is to cease dependence on one’s activity and rest in reliance upon the action of Another who dwells within. That is fulfilling the sabbath/Sunday.

Are you capable, panic-proof, and filled with fruitfulness? God makes Himself available for that purpose, and it is the only thing that will do it; there is no substitute. You are capable in Him; You are panic-proof in Him, abide and be fruitful in Him; it is His fragrance that radiates from you and gives you life in abundance. God’s rest, our Sabbath, is designed to produce it all! Our Sabbath is every day we find rest in God.

I cannot think of any more significant time for us to take hold and live out Matthew 11:28-30.

Jesus said, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavily laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. He says, For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matt:1128

Even as our world struggles with a myriad of problems, Jesus can give us rest, peace and carry our burdens. Are You waiting for Sunday? Rest in Him today. Today is your Sabbath rest. God’s people are to be fruitful and multiply!
